The Bible Version Issue
I had a recent conversation with a professing Christian who aggressively pressed that my position on the King James Version is, as he put it, misinformed, willfully ignorant, etc. It reminds me of similar conversations I’ve had with those who believe the same about my position in favor of the biblical description of creation.
First, there was the refusal to consider any of my arguments valid because they are faith-based.
For me to use any documentation from history, literature, science, or elsewhere was maligned as ignorance, or worse.
Second, they used what they believed to be better documentation.
They outright denied any documentation I may produce as flawed, but they presented their own as irrefutable. Mind you, few that I have spoken to can personally verify the documentation they offer. They’ve merely read it in a book or heard it in a spearhead somewhere.
It is, in fact, the reason we are in the debate in the first place. They have become so convinced that whatever information they have is so superior to any I have that there must be something wrong with me if I can’t see it as they do. It almost always devolves into a personal attack.
In both situations, creation and the King James, the answer to the debate for me is faith.
I simply believe the Bible.
· I believe the Bible about what it says about God
· I believe the Bible about what it says about the Bible
I, therefore, believe that God would want to preserve His Word and that He promised to do it.
· I believe that God is able to preserve His Word, or else He is no God at all
· I believe God did preserve His Word, and it is available for you and me today.
No one, to my knowledge, denies that there are obvious differences between the King James Version and all the others. By the way, this is one noticeable difference, the King James Version, like the Lord Himself, is conservative. As He has not changed, neither has the King James Version. The other versions are added to, revised, replaced, and improved upon. The only constant is that they do not derive from the same manuscripts as the King James Bible.
Since they are different, they cannot both be right.
Either one is right, the other is wrong, or both are wrong.
Every other position concerning the Bible versions contends that both are wrong. Every other Bible version position, other than the one that holds that God has preserved His Word in the King James Version, contends that no one today has a perfect Bible. The best they ever say is that God preserved it well enough that we can trust it for its message, if not its exact words.
· Every other Bible Version position makes man the ultimate authority to decide for themselves what version of the Bible they prefer.
· Every other Bible Version position leaves us all at the mercy of academic scholarship to provide us with the best possible probable Word of God.
· Every other Bible Version position provides an economic opportunity for scholars and publishers to feed on the religious nature of men and produce and promote the newest and best, closest Bible to what God intended.
God promised to preserve the Word of God. God is surely able to preserve the Word of God. Let the academic fools come up with all the evidence they please against it; I am convinced by faith that God did preserve the Word of God without error and in no need of correction in the King James Version.
